Penci.ly for teachers

See the whole term, not just next Tuesday

Lessons, units, materials, assessments and the skills each one is supposed to build, on one canvas. Connect a lesson to the assessment it prepares for, and a gap in the term shows up in September rather than in March.

Free while we are in early access, and free for life if you sign up now. No card.

What you can plan

A term you can look at in one go

Keep the arc of the course and the handout for Thursday on the same board, so planning a week means opening one thing.

Unit and term planning

Lay the weeks out left to right and put each unit where it falls. Moving a unit is dragging it, not renumbering a table.

Learning objectives

Connect a lesson to the objective it serves, so you can see which skills get three lessons and which get none.

Materials in context

Attach the slides, the worksheet, the video link and the reading to the lesson card rather than to a folder named after a date.

Assessment planning

Put each assessment on the board and draw connections back to every lesson that prepares for it. Gaps become obvious.

Lesson detail on its own board

Open a lesson card into its own canvas with the timings, the activities and the differentiation, while the term board stays readable.

Sharing with colleagues

Invite the person teaching the parallel group as an editor, or a head of department as a viewer, and skip the round of emailed attachments.

Example workflow

From an empty term to a week you can teach

01

Block out the term

Put the weeks, the units and the fixed dates on the board first. Holidays and assessment weeks are cards like anything else.

02

Hang the objectives off it

Add what each unit is meant to build and connect the lessons to it, so an objective with nothing pointing at it is visible.

03

Fill in the detail as you go

Open a week into its own board when you get to it and attach the materials there. The term board does not get longer.
